Campus Media
When you live at home, you’re parents often have newspapers delivered that show all the national news as well as the local news. You can effectively know every news worthy even going on around your hometown thanks to the local section of the newspaper. But what about when you go off to college? Are there different ways of getting information passed around? Well it turns out that things are both very different and very similar when it comes to comparing college to local media.
The first thing you have to know about college media is that it’s student run. And because it’s student run, these people are often students of more nationally recognized forms of their given choice of media. For example there are campus radio hosts and they’ll often try to rip off what’s on the air at home or what they normally listen to. Campus newspapers also exist and are modeled after papers like the New York Times and other famous publications. They’ll take inspiration from these places and try to morph it into their chosen form of campus media. In this way, student run campus media outlets are very similar to more recognized ones.
But since there are very few websites devoted to delivering news about local campuses, especially smaller ones, there has to be other ways of passing information around. One of the new ways is the embracing of technology. The Universities will email out news bulletins and other kinds of relevant information that would normally be found in a local town over the internet and through the newspaper and newsletters.
Colleges were among the first to embrace the internet and have really done a lot with it. Besides these bulletins about important information, there are also student run groups that are done exclusively online. They range from magazines to clubs to pretty much anything you can imagine. The internet has really changed campus media.
So in conclusion there really is any kind of campus media you can imagine. If you can think of it, it probably exists at most colleges. Students love to send information to each other, and these are the ways to do it.
