International Students
People from all over the world are coming to America all the time. Whether it’s from places like Europe, Far Asia or India, they come from all over for the opportunity, culture and new lease on life. Their home countries are often restrictive an immigrating is the best way to change their lives. But what about the students that come from these countries? Why do they come here and what do they get out of it? Keep reading to find out.
When you think of international students, you probably think of the kids in your elementary school that didn’t talk to anyone (since they couldn’t speak the language) and did their own thing. In college, things are sometimes different. These kids from countries that are most of the time more business focused than the United States. They really were raised differently.
These kids usually aren’t coming to learn about the American way of life and bring it right back to their country for implementation. They have more individual goals in mind. Most of the time their parents have to work in manual labor and don’t get many opportunities in life. They are often like poorer families here. They don’t care what the kids have to do as long as it gets them a better job.
There’s a reason these kids don’t participate in any social events or make friends with the other kids living on their floor. They’re usually studying to be doctors, engineers or something like that so there’s a tangible goal to what they’re here for. Sure making friends would be nice, but if they put that time more into studying, they can attain their goal that much quicker.
The faster these people attain their goals here, the faster they can move on into what they came here for. College isn’t a time to find yourself as it often is for American students. It’s a time to get your career on track and make something of your life. While this may only seem as something of a side mission for the typical college student, international students are essentially here on a business trip so don’t take it personally that they don’t want anything to do with you.
