What is Distance Learning?
When you think of college, you probably think of going to class in some giant lecture hall filled with a bunch of twenty-somethings. The professors don’t really know anybody or need to know anybody. They basically just talk to whoever will listen as all the students are just numbers to them anyway. So how can you make college less impersonal while also doing it on your own time? Distance learning is the key.
Oftentimes adults who want to go back to school either want a degree to change their career or advance the one they have. But there is one obvious problem with all of these grand plans: they work a full time job and seemingly don’t have the time to go back and take the necessary classes to complete their program. So that’s where the chief agent of distance learning, the online education, comes into play. This new innovation allows adults to take whatever classes they want on their own time to complete what they want.
The programs used for this allows for talking to people from around the world as well as the ability to get to know your professor. Professors will often set up many times for their students to be able to talk to them through this whether it is through video chat, AIM or any other kind of communication. Professors can get to know their students very well through this.
Distance education allows students from all over the world to be able to connect with each other through classes, chatting and studying. They can get to know other students and cultures. For example, if you’re from the Far East, the ability to take American classes can really be valuable. You can get to know the culture while also studying the same kinds of things as your competition if you end up coming to America.
There really is no downside to distance learning at all. It allows people from all over the world to be able to connect through a new means of communication while also learning similar things. Things like this really do make the world a smaller place.
