The first ones you probably think of are the ones like the University of Phoenix and ITT Tech among many others. These schools have ads on all the time that boast about “national accreditation” and other credentials that make their degrees just as valuable as a normal school but able to be completed on your own time. There isn’t a downside is there? Well it turns out that these schools are for profit and will hand out loans at high interest rates so they can make money off their students. They treat the people who enroll as just walking dollar signs. They don’t care about investing the money to improve the education. In fact, they’ve lowered the quality of education just to make a few more bucks. So avoid these schools at all costs.
So what kinds of online schools should you enroll in? The ones you should go for are extensions of traditionally regionally accredited schools. Big state schools and many private schools often have degree programs available through their online college. While some schools may not offer many full online degree programs, there are at least some kinds of classes offered at most of them. And the beauty of the online schools is that you can look at each school and only enroll in the one that has the degree program of your choice.
